I was with TrustedHousesitters for many years, but as the company grew — and was eventually sold to Mayfair Equity Partners — I felt its priorities shifted from protecting pets and homeowners to maximising profit. Stories in unofficial THS groups described serious issues involving neglected pets, unsafe situations, and poor accountability, yet offending members often remained on the platform.
The final straw came when THS introduced a new $US12 per-booking fee for both homeowners and sitters, on top of annual membership fees, without offering any additional benefits. Members were locked out of their accounts until agreeing to updated terms they couldn’t read first. The backlash was immediate, their TrustPilot rating dropped from 4.9 to 3.9 in one week. After growing increasingly uncomfortable with the company’s direction, I left the platform in December 2025 — thankfully after screenshotting my reviews.
